What a season we are having!

February 12/17
Welcome everyone to Palm Creek Shuffleboard!
Palm Creek Shuffleboard is having a fantastic season. We have 140 plus members & newbies coming to the courts daily to learn the game. There are 16 courts on which 4 players engage in a friendly competition each day. That means on any given day 64 shufflers are having fun in the sun. This activity is organized completely by volunteers who love the game.

Our season commences November 1st and ends March 31st playing Monday through Friday each week. Please wear your Palm Creek photo ID whether you are a member or a guest.

Membership fees are $10.00 for the season. You are allowed 2 free games while you consider whether or not you wish to join. Another option is to pay $1.00 per day. Guests/short stay visitors may choose to do so. Membership fees include free lessons, coffee, occasional goodies and 3 pizza lunches! Non members, guests for example, pay $5.00 for pizza lunches.

This year we ask everyone to be at the courts no later than 9:00 AM. Everyone must "sign in" on arrival so that we can determine how to organize play. Positions and courts are drawn randomly and play begins. Two games can be finished in 1 1/2 hours. Tournaments may be held at the discretion of the Shuffleboard Executive. Play will be suspended or cancelled due to poor weather conditions such as rain or wind.

Then to add to the weekly fun, Bowling Pin Shuffleboard is offered each Sunday at 1PM commencing January 1st. Please present at the courts at least 15 minutes early. This game is a gambler's dream! I can tell you that the "buy-in" is a whopping $1.00 and a pocket with a few quarters is mandatory.

A big thank you to everyone who helps with the preparation of the courts for play. Volunteers come early to do the cleaning and preparation in this sequence.
a) sweep alleys and courts of debris
b) remove dried debris with scrubber
c) dry mop courts
d) wet mop courts
e) when courts are dry, apply wax/meal blend with shaker

Discs and cues are distributed to individual courts. Discs are dusted each day. Chalk & brushes for scoring are also set on each score board. Then at last the numbers in the sign in book are tallied and courts are drawn for play.

MANY HANDS MAKE FOR LIGHT WORK, and everyone is very willing to help. After and during play the bottomless coffee urn welcomes you.

We must also mention the recycling that is done with the wax mixture. After play each day, courts are swept for left over wax and it is in turn sifted back into wax kegs to be reused. Wax is expensive and our membership pays for half of that expense.
